JAKARTA, 29 July – The diplomatic efforts of ASEAN Chairman and Malaysian Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, have successfully paved the way for a ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, easing recent border tensions between the two countries.

According to an ASEAN Secretariat statement, Anwar’s timely intervention and facilitation of dialogue between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Acting Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan helped both sides reach a mutual understanding to halt hostilities and prioritize regional stability.

“The achievement reflects ASEAN’s commitment to peaceful resolution of disputes and the unity of its member states in safeguarding regional security,” the statement added.

Both Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to continue negotiations under ASEAN’s framework to ensure the ceasefire is maintained and to prevent future conflicts.
